New Aquaman Synopsis Reportedly Revealed

Next year, The DC Extended Universe will expand further when Aquaman dives into theaters, but details about the project have been kept close to chest. Fans will learn more about the project as Justice League jumps into cinemas this summer, and Jason Momoa will introduce his iteration of Aquaman in the blockbuster. The hero's standalone project will surely be hinted at through the ensemble blockbuster, so fans have had trouble gauging what Aquaman will entail. But, now, a newly released casting call is hinting at the project's synopsis with a revised logline.

According to Acting Auditions, the Aquaman film will be going in a familiar direction for DC fans. The site posted a casting call for the movie as production draws nearer to its state date in Australia. And, in the press release, the following logline was included:

"Aquaman will center on Aquaman as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface."

In the previously released logline for Aquaman, fans learned that the hero was already set as the Leader of Atlantis. However, the new description gives more insight into how Aquaman is pulled between his two worlds of land and sea. The hero is now said to be confronted by land dwellers polluting his home, and Aquaman's people are definitely ready to rise up against their slights.

Aquaman has a long history with combating environment controversies, and aquatic pollution has acted a story driver in the past. Previously, DC Comics has explored what would happen if Atlantis rose up against land dwellers when Aquaman's brother Orm convinces his people ocean pollution will destroy Atlantis. Clearly, the pull between the two worlds would lead to an all-out fight, and Momoa has previously said pollution would make his character "meaner and upset."

The casting call also seemed to confirmed both Nicole Kidman and Temuera Morrison had joined the cast. Yahya Abdul-Mateen will play the villain Black Manta, and the other stars were said to have been in talks about playing Aquaman's parents in past months.

The stars join Patrick Wilson as Orm, Amber Heard as Mera, and Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko. Cinematographer Don Burgess has been brought on to shoot the film. Aquaman is scheduled to hit theaters July 27, 2018.
