Arrow Season 6 To Show Oliver In A More Paternal Role

Season Six will see many changes to the heroes of Arrow, but nothing can compare to those Oliver himself will undergo.

It was revealed in Season Five that Oliver has a son, which will only fuel the character's growth in terms of leadership and how he approaches the rest of the team. Arrow executive producer Wendy Mericle spoke to ComicBook.com's Russ Burlingame at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 about how Oliver is going to change in the coming Season Six.

"It's really changed things," Mericle said. "I mean we're trying to take Oliver as a character in a new direction because he's had these 5 years of experience. Getting advice and taking wisdom from all kinds of places, and starting in season 6 we want to sort of flip that dynamic, and see him in a more, I don't know paternal role."

That change will occur with both his team and the new child in his life, though it isn't known yet which of his team will be returning.

"He's that way with the team," Mericle continued, "and he's going to be, ya know, whichever of the team survives, and he's going to be that way with the son as well, and it's just a new interesting dynamic that will keep the character fresh and hopefully keep the show fresh as well."

Based on the characters from DC, ARROW is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Supergirl), Marc Guggenheim (DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Eli Stone), Wendy Mericle (Desperate Housewives, Eli Stone), Andrew Kreisberg (The Flash, Eli Stone, Warehouse 13) and Sarah Schechter (The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow).

Supergirl premieres on Monday, October 9th at 8 pm, while The Flash debuts on Tuesday, October 10 at 8 pm. Legends of Tomorrow moves to Tuesdays this Fall, airing right after The Flash on October 10. On Thursday, October 12 at 9 pm Arrow will premiere to round out the DC roster.
