Batgirl: Joss Whedon Talks Possible Alicia Silverstone Cameo

The Internet was shocked a few weeks ago upon hearing that a Batgirl solo film is on the way, and will be helmed by Joss Whedon.

Although the casting of the title role is apparently quite a ways away, some have already been wondering if the film will contain nods to previous incarnations of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. While actresses such as Yvonne Craig and Rosario Dawson have portrayed the character, one potential cameo on fans' minds is Alicia Silverstone.

The actress, who rose to fame playing Cher Horowitz in the cult-classic Clueless, made her mark on the DC world - for better or worse - by playing Barbara Gordon in 1997's Batman and Robin. While the film has become almost infamous in the year's since its release, there are some who view Silverstone's portrayal of Barbara fondly.

As to whether or not Silverstone could cameo in the upcoming Batgirl film, Whedon explained that while it's not impossible, the film is too early in development for it to be set in stone.

"It hasn't crossed my mind," Whedon explained while on the red carpet for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. "I'm not against it, but I'm not looking for Easter eggs – I'm still trying to write a movie!"

Given's Slverstone's ability to balance humor and drama, as well the feminist fan following she has accumulated since Clueless, a cameo from the actress feels like a natural fit for Batgirl. It appears that fans will just have to wait and see if it does become a reality.
