Batman and The Signal Series Announced

More than a year after his new name and costume was first teased in Batman: Rebirth, Duke Thomas was christened "The Signal" today, complete with a full costume reveal and the announcement that a new Batman & The Signal series was coming this fall from DC Comics.

Batman & The Signal will be written by Batman icon Scott Snyder with partner with Tony Patrick. RED co-creator Cully Hamner, who was instrumental in redesigning the look of the DC Universe after 2011s The New 52 reboot, will provide the art.

The story will spin out of the events of Dark Days: The Culling, and the first issue will launch on November 8. You can see the official solicitaiton text below.

Patrick was teamed with Snyder as part of DC's Talent Development Workshop last year, and during the course of their time together, asked Snyder what the plans were for Duke, according to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision. Snyder reportedly told Patrick that he hoped to eventually spin Duke off into his own story, and that he was looking for a writing partner to work with on the tale.

"He works with kids in Brooklyn, at a center not unlike the center in the series," Snyder said of Patrick. "He was really passionate about the character."

Patrick echoed and elaborated on that, saying, "I work with students, and what I've realized is, I'm a real advocate for high school kids. I realized that I go after what I need when it comes to getting resources from the kids, but as an artist, I never did that to myself until recently. I think it was that class that I said to myself, if you don't raise your hand and say that you're interested in this, you're missing out on a huge opportunity."
