It looks like the gears are moving over at Warner Brothers. The studio has been teasing fans that a standalone movie would be coming for Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. The actress has hinted that the film is well underway, and now fans have gotten a huge update on the film. Director David Ayer (Suicide Squad) will helm the project that's been titled Gotham City Sirens. The film will see Harley Quinn work alongside other vixens like Poison Ivy and Catwoman.

And, now, fans are starting to wonder whether a familiar face from the Batman universe will make an appearance in the film.

When Christopher Nolan took on Gotham's hero in The Dark Knight trilogy, fans were introduced to a slew of characters. One of them was none other than Selina Kyle who is better known by the alias Catwoman. Played by Anne Hathaway, the leather-clad thief purred onto the screen to rave reviews, and the actress has repeatedly said she'd be interested in revisiting the role if she ever got the chance.

In fact, Hathaway talked about her interest in reprising Catwoman earlier this year. During a press junket in September, the actress said she "loved" playing the villain.

"I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her," Anne said. "I'm not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I'm part of that, but I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back."

However, the actress did say much of her enjoyment stemmed from Nolan's involvement with The Dark Knight. "For me, the thing that made doing that part particularly fun was that she existed in his Gotham," she explained. "Without him I don't think it would be the same thing."

Of course, Nolan's Batman films and the burgeoning DC Extended Universe are two separate entities. The former saw Christian Bale don the Dark Knight's suit while Ben Affleck has inherited the role as of late. Fans may want to see Hathaway make a comeback as Catwoman, and the actress may want to do so as well - but it seems rather unlikely that Hathaway will reprise the role.

In the end, the casting decision will come down to franchise differentiation. Bringing Hathaway in as Catwoman will crossover the two cinematic worlds in a way that DC Films would disapprove of. In the coming months, fans will undoubtedly learn Warner Bros. is looking for a new actress to suit up as Catwoman in Gotham City Sirens. The fresh talent will bring a unique element to the villainess that has not been seen on-screen yet, and the casting choice will prevent fans from confusing Nolan's world with the canon of the DCEU.

Sorry, Anne.

What do you think? Would you want Hathaway to reprise her role as Catwoman in the DCEU? Which other actresses do you think may rock the role? Let us know in the comments below!
