Baywatch Star Wants To Be The Lead In Joss Whedon's Batgirl

With the critical and box office success of Wonder Woman, many are wondered what's next for the world of female-led superhero movies. And now, a fan-favorite actor has her sights set on possibly playing another DC Comics role - Batgirl.

While on the press tour for Baywatch, Priyanka Chopra was asked by OK Magazine if she is interested in appearing in a superhero movie. The actress, best known to American audiences for her role in the ABC drama Quantico, seemed very on board with the idea.

"My dream part is, now that I'm working in America, I definitely want to do a superhero part. When I think of American movies, they've had superheroes for aeons right? So I definitely want to play a superhero and I want to have an interesting super power. I don't know... Batgirl would be so cool!"

With Batgirl yet to be cast in the DC Extended Universe - and a film written and directed by Joss Whedon is currently in the early stages of development - Chopra taking on the role on Barbara Gordon is certainly a possibility.

The actress has both a fanbase in the states - thanks to her action-packed performance on Quantico - and a huge international following from her established career in India's Bollywood industry. And with early reports stating that Whedon's Batgirl script will be influenced by Gail Simone's run of the comics, Chopra is in just the right age range to portray that version of the character.

In addition, many fans have advocated for Batgirl to be portrayed as a person of color within the DCEU, with early rumors suggesting that The 100's Lindsey Morgan could be playing the role.

As of now, any talk of Chopra playing Batgirl is currently speculation. Apparently, the actress has yet to be approached for a specific superheroine role.

"Well there's lots of chatter about lots of films," Chopra explained, "but no one has spoken to me about it."
