DC Entertainment has provided ComicBook.com with an exclusive sneak peek at Wednesday's Wacky Raceland #1 from writer Ken Pontac and artist Leonardo Manco.

The series, a dystopian, Mad Max-inspired reinvention of Wacky Races, is the latest Hanna-Barbera cartoon to get a reimagining from DC. Both Future Quest and Scooby Apocalypse, featuring characters from Johnny Question, Space Ghost, and Scooby-Doo cartoons, came out to solid reviews and sold out in the direct market.

Wacky Raceland, like Scooby Apocalypse, is decidedly more adult than the source material. In contrast to Future Quest or the forthcoming The Flintstones, it doesn't feel like something you would have seen on Saturday mornings in the '80s anymore. But the idea here seems to keep elements of the core of the series intact while twisting the execution into something bizarre and interesting for a new audience, many of whom likely only remember Wacky Races as something they saw in reruns on Boomerang.

The world has ended, but the race has just begun! Penelope Pitstop, Peter Perfect and the rest of the Wacky Racers vie for the finish line in a contest where the winner takes all and second place is death. Today's trial: the shattered maze of freeways known as the Überpass, where they're beset by giant sand beasts, mutated insects, and worst of all, Dick Dastardly's murderously poor sportsmanship. The last thing they need after surviving the race is a brutal bar fight in a local dive, but that's just what they get!
