Fan's Recut Suicide Squad Could Be Better Than Actual Movie

While DC Films' Suicide Squad made quite a bit of money at the box office, it left fans and critics underwhelmed with its uneven pacing and confused tone. Rumors of a messy production plagued the film before it was even released, and those rumors seemed to prove true when the final cut premiered in theaters.

The makings of a decent film are there — unfortunately, it just doesn't exist in the runtime as it is.

So a user called PK2141 on the /r/movies subReddit decided to take matters into his own hands and produce what they've called the "Ultimate Cut" of Suicide Squad.

The post consists of all the major and minor changes he made to the film to clean up the pacing and make the plot more concise. He also changes the coloring in certain scenes to create a consistent tone in an otherwise semi-cartoony movie.

The edit consists of black-and-white colorization for flashbacks and introductions, adding some separation to the events of the film, while also removing the Amanda Waller voiceovers which are superfluous to what's happening on the screen.

Some scenes are removed entirely, like Rick Flag's introduction. And the cut also changes the "twist reveal" so that everything between Flag, Enchantress, and her brother happens in one sequence.

Perhaps most welcome is the removal of some of the soundtrack in the film, replaced by the score. While the film was attempting to capture the magic of Guardians of the Galaxy with the music, Suicide Squad failed in comparison. Adding the score instead is a much welcome change.

All in all, this sounds like the "Extended Cut" fans deserve. If you want to watch it for yourself, you can - so long as you already own a copy of the movie. Head on over to the thread to find out how.

Suicide Squad is now available on Digital HD, DVD, and Blu-ray.

Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man for himself?

Written and directed by David Ayer, the film starred Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis. The cast also included Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delevingne, Adam Beach, and Karen Fukuhara in her feature film debut.
