Felicity Smoak's New Boyfriend Revealed On Arrow Season 5 Premiere

10/05/2016 09:03 pm EDT

Spoilers ahead for tonight's episode of Arrow, titled "Legacy."

For months now, there have been rumors -- and then confirmed reports -- that Felicity Smoak would have a new boyfriend in the fifth season of Arrow, which began tonight.

After two seasons of being Oliver Queen's designated love interest, Felicity's midseason breakup with her arrow-slinging bow last year was cemented tonight as we saw her getting a backrub from another guy.

...And, yes, you might have recognized him from earlier in the episode.

Felicity's new beau is actually a member of the Starling City Police Department: Detective Malone (no first name given yet that we can tell).

Detective Malone is played by Tyler Ritter, the son of TV icon John Ritter. [Tyler] Ritter previously appeared on The McCarthys.

So far, we don't know much about the character -- he's not apparently a corrupt cop, but he's also not part of Quentin Lance's dossier of guaranteed-good cops, so perhaps the whole idea of setting up a conflict between Oliver/Green Arrow and the Star City Police Department will work on a couple of levels as it also pits him against Felicity's boyfriend, either politically or actually.

"It is a true rumor," Rickards confirmed in a cast interview with TV Line at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2016. "She steps on it pretty hot off the bat. You'll meet him quite quickly."

Felicity and Oliver Queen, played by Stephen Amell, formed an ill-fated relationship, a.k.a. "Olicity," in Season 4. So how does the ex, Oliver, take the news of Felicity's new beau?

"I think he'll be fine," Amell joked. "I think he'll be fine. He will hug a pillow, much like I'm hugging a pillow right now, but he'll do it in private....I mean, I feel like Oliver will react the way he always reacts," Amell teased jokingly. "He'll seek the advice of others, and be totally calm, and not react violently at all. Or whatever the opposite of that is."

Supergirl airs on Mondays at 8 p.m.; The Flash on Tuesdays at the same time, Arrow on Wednesdays, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow on Thursdays. The Flash will debut its new episodes on The CW starting October 4; Arrow, October 5; Supergirl, October 10; and DC's Legends of Tomorrow October 13.
