Gotham Ratings See Slight Uptick in Winter Premiere

Gotham returned to the airwaves Monday night, kicking off a special three-episode winter arc of the series. While the promise of Jerome's return wasn't fully realized in the winter premiere (only teased - but next week should be fun), the episode was well-received by fans, and that's evidenced in a slight uptick in the ratings. Gotham went to a 1.2 demographic rating and 3.69 million viewers, up from a 1.1 and 3.65 mil in its fall finale.

The real story here, then, is in consistency, and in that, Gotham is utterly remarkable. It's held a 1.1 or 1.2 in every new episode this season but one, and has averaged right around 3.5 million live viewers (so the last two episodes have been significant increases there). That bodes well for the series, going into the spring and renewal season - especially since it'll be off the air for most of the renewal season. After this three episode arc which has been billed as a mini-event of its own, Gotham goes on a second hiatus, and doesn't return for nearly three months, staying off air for all of February, March, and the vast majority of April, returning April 24, 2017.

But for now, it has two more episodes, seeing the return of Jerome, the escalation of the war between Ed Nygma and Penguin (which the latter doesn't even know is happening yet), and the continued looming threat of the Court of Owls. There's a ton to wrap-up in the next two weeks, and that should pay off in continually steady ratings.

Gotham airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
