Joker & Harley Quinn Cosplayers Shot By Police During Erotic Nightclub Party

Comic book movies don't always inspire the best in the viewers that watch them, and that goes double for movie like Suicide Squad, which is all about the bad behaviour of some truly ruthless and/or crazy DC Comics villains.

We here at Comicbook.com recently brought you the story of a real-life criminal who was inspired by both Heath Ledger and Jared Leto's movie versions of The Joker - but today's story of DC Comics movies causing real-world chaos blows that previous one right out of the water!

A report in Standard UK details how Australian police injured a man and woman with gunfire, after the couple - who were dressed as The Joker and Harley Quinn - were found engaging in a sex act in an Australian nightclub.

Dale Ewins (35) and Zita Sukys (37) were enjoying one another's company (so to speak) at the erotic costume party known as the "Saints and Sinners Ball" at Inflation nightclub, when Australian police raided the venue. Ewins had a fake gun as part of his Joker costume, which police mistook for a real firearm, opening fire on the couple. Ewins was shot in the stomach, while Sukys was hit in the leg. Both were taken to the hospital, and Ewins is believed to be in critical condition from his injuries.

Inflation owner Martha Tsamis posted a defense of both the erotic event and the injured couple on Facebook, stating:

"Venue staff have stated that the male victim was not holding anything in his hand but rather he was in a compromising position with his female partner, which is a normal activity with the nature of this event."

In a response to the incident, police Superintendent Lisa Hardeman implies that the fault lies with Ewins for not dropping the fake weapon, claiming, ""When a firearm is pointed at you in these circumstances, police are not sure at that stage whether it is real or an imitation."

An investigation of the incident is said to be underway.

For those who think that cosplay is all fun and games (and sex play) - be warned. If you're costume is too good, it could be potentially fatal!
