Justice League Trailer Gives New Look At Mera

03/25/2017 12:20 pm EDT

Even in the original footage from Justice League, there was still an air of mystery around Aquaman, and how he would be handled. The new trailer for the upcoming Zack Snyder film shattered that completely, and also provided another look at the Queen of Atlantis Mera.

Mera is played by Amber Heard, and as you can see in the image Warner Bros. and Snyder are embracing the aquatic themes of the characters, as she seems to be exploring something in the ocean depths. It appears to be an Atlantean artifact of some kind, and two figures who are off in the distance behind her seem to also be of Atlantean descent.

Heard's Mera will play a smaller part in Justice League, but will then be heavily featured in the upcoming Aquaman solo film, alongside Jason Momoa. It's unclear still as to what her role is in Justice League, but hopefully, fans will see more of the character in future trailers. The newest footage should help Justice League rise even further in ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings, as it currently holds a 4.06 out of 5.

Make sure to check out a slew of new stills from the trailer in the gallery, which includes plenty more of Aquaman.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Ciarán Hinds, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons and Jesse Eisenberg.

DC and Warner Bros. have a full slate ahead, with Teen Titans: The Judas Contract coming first on April 4, 2017. After that it's time for Wonder Woman on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017. The Batman is expected sometime in 2018, with The Flash debuting on March 23, 2018. Aquaman is set for October 5, 2018, and Nightwing's solo feature is due sometime in 2019.
