Warner Bros. is reportedly eyeing X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn to direct Man of Steel 2, the sequel to the Zack Snyder Superman movie that launched the DC Extended Universe.

According to Collider's sources, Warner Bros. is in preliminary talks with the Kingsman: The Secret Service director about helming the Superman sequel, but they have not yet reached the point where they're hashing out a deal.

If Vaughn does pass on directing Man of Steel 2, sources say that Warner Bros. will continue to court him for another DC Extended Universe movie.

Vaughn's X-Men: First Class is beloved by some for being the most colorful and "comic book-y" of all the X-Men movies. Should he sign on for Man of Steel it could signal a drastically different direction for the film when compared to Zack Snyder's muted and pensive Man of Steel.

What may be equally exciting for Superman fans as the idea of Vaughn directing Man of Steel 2 is simply the news that Warner Bros. is moving ahead with the film in any measure. Man of Steel was released in 2013. Henry Cavill reprised the role in 2016 to share the screen and title billing with Ben Affleck's Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Cavill's Superman is expected to return again in Justice League this November. Man of Steel 2 has been promised by Warner Bros, but there's been little news about its development until now.

The original Man of Steel has a 68.80 ComicBook Composite Score and a 3.75 ComicBook User Rating. Let us know what you thought of Man of Steel by giving it your own rating below.
