New Suicide Squad Image Shows Joker And Harley Quinn Abuse Was Cut

The Joker and Harley Quinn dynamic is often portrayed in the comics as dysfunctional at best and completely abusive at worst, but in David Ayer's Suicide Squad, there wasn't as much of that abuse as fans have come to expect.
Oh sure, Joker is still awful, electrocuting her with paddles before her transformation and leaving her to die in a car crash, but overall their relationship featured a much lighter touch than seen in previous versions. That is mostly credited to the studio's insistence that the tone of the film needed to significantly lighten up, as neither fans nor test screeners reacted well to the tone of their previous effort, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Some suspect that most of what ended up on the cutting room floor involved Joker and Harley, and a recent image from the film published by Rolling Stone Brazil (via Batman News) reveals one such scene. It's during the helicopter ride after Joker springs Harley from the rooftop. In the theatrical cut, the two share a passionate embrace, and Joker is more relieved to see her than anything. At some point, though, it looks like there was more to that scene, with him seemingly scolding her with a finger in her face, and her expression doesn't imply good things.
Jared Leto previously spoke about the sheer amount of Joker footage filmed for the movie, which is genuinely surprising since there was so little of him in the final film.
"I think that I brought so much to the table in every scene that it was probably more about filtering all of the insanity, because I wanted to give a lot of options, and I think there's probably enough footage in this film for a Joker movie. If I were to die tomorrow, maybe the studio would roll something out."
