The Flash Season 3 Villains So Far

Doctor Alchemy

Doctor Alchemy was first teased as the main villain for The Flash Season 3 in the first trailer, shown at Comic-Con 2016.

Doctor Alchemy is a classic villain and member of Flash's Rogues, who first appeared in Showcase #13 in 1958. Also known as Mister Element, he uses the power of a "philosopher's stone" to transmute common elements while fighting The Flash.

Albert Desmond began as a man who suffered from multiple personality disorder who was overly obsessed with chemistry. He eventually gave in to his criminal side, proving to be a worthy foe of the Scarlet Speedster.

He discovered the philosopher's stone while he was locked up in jail, used it to escape, and further torment The Flash.

As you can see in the trailer below, Doctor Alchemy seems to have control over Barry Allen:

Black Flash

In The Flash comics, Black Flash is the grim reaper for speedsters, sending them back to the Speed Force when they die.

While technically a villain, Black Flash is more of a personification of death itself.

Last season, we witnessed Zoom (Teddy Sears) transform into Black Flash after he was defeated by Barry Allen. But we weren't sure if this was just a bit of fan service or if Black Flash would play a role in season 3.

In recent interview with EW, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg spoke about the return of Teddy Sears as Black Flash:

"Obviously we did that on purpose. We love working with Teddy [Sears]. He's such an amazing actor and amazing person, and was so much a part of the success of this show last season. There aren't any immediate plans for that, but you can't keep a good Black Flash down, so I'm sure we'll be seeing him in the future."

It sounds like we may being seeing him at some point, but not right away...

Magenta

In The Flash comics, Magenta (Joey King) is a member of the classic Rogues, but also plays the role of Wally West/Kid Flash's love interest...

Frances Kane (Magenta) met Wally West when they were just kids, growing up together as friends. After having a troubled childhood, she reached adulthood and started to exhibit strange magnetic powers. Wally did his best to teach her how to use her superpowers without causing complete havoc.

After Wally West took on the mantle of The Flash, the two were a power couple for quite a while – until she left him.

After their break-up in the world of DC Comics, Magenta returned to Central City with a vengeance, stronger powers, and an mean personality with the sole purpose of getting back at Wally (and his new girlfriend). Magenta caused quite a battle at a local baseball game.

We're not sure if we'll be meeting an ally or an enemy with Magenta, but it's safe to say she's more likely to appear as a villain...

Savitar

Despite the recent news of Todd Lasance (The Vampire Diaries) being cast as the speedster Savitar, showrunner Greg Berlanti claims that the villain hasn't even been cast yet for The Flash season 3.

But, we still know that Savitar is one of the main big bads!

ComicBook's own Russ Burlingame perfectly describes Savitar as:

"A master of the Speed Force, Savitar has spent his entire long life studying velocity, becoming a master of speed on a level that nobody else ever has. After being shunted into the future during a battle with Max Mercury, he ended up facing off against The Flash and the family of speedsters that surrounded him. During that battle, Savitar revealed that one of the skills he had honed during his years of study was the ability to lend or borrow speed, effectively making him more powerful in the presence of other speedsters."

This doesn't change the fact that Lasance was still seen on set in a speedster-like outfit...

The Rival

Turns out, Lasance will be playing The Rival, a Golden Age villain with ties to Jay Garrick in the comics. This would explain his speedster suit.

Once again our resident comic book expert Russ Burlingame explains:

"There was, in fact, a Golden Age Reverse-Flash in the pages of Jay Garrick's Flash comics as well. A blue-masked, self-obsessed doppelganger of Garrick, Edward Clariss is generally called The Rival, and for a while, some fans (myself included) were convinced that he might be Zoom last year.

Clariss was a professor at the university attended by the Earth-2 Flash, Jay Garrick. He believed he had recreated the formula that gave Garrick his speed, but the scientific community didn't believe him, driving him to madness and crime.

After his escape from the Speed Force, Clariss was able to possess other bodies, being that he was now a being of pure energy, something that might prove useful in a character who's designated as "recurring," so he probably won't just vanish into the ether when the Flashpoint universe gets undone."

So, it sounds like we'll be seeing The Rival quite a bit in The Flash season 3...

Mirror Master

Mirror Master (Grey Damon) has a rather interesting set of superpowers and abilities all involving reflections and, of course, mirrors.

In the comics, Sam Scudder started out as your convict who was always fascinated by reflections. After stumbling into a hall of mirrors and experimenting, he learned how to get inside of his own reflection.

With his new found powers and his weapon, he became Mirror Master, a frequent foe of The Flash. Scudder uses mirrors to hypnotize, become invisible, create holograms and physical transformations and finally to communications with and travel to other dimensions.

In a recent interview with TVLine, Todd Helbing revealed this juicy bit of info about Mirror Master:

"...he doesn't use the [mirror] gun. He's a true meta, but he's not necessarily warping into other dimensions."

Based on that, we're expecting to see a good old-fashioned crime spree chase sequence through out Central City.

Too bad Barry Allen isn't able to slip through mirrors...

Female Top

The Top, another classic villain from The Flash comics, will be making an appearance on the show as a female version played by Ashley Rickards (Awkward).

ComicBook's own Matthew Mueller explains what exactly The Top will be doing in The Flash season 3:

"The Top, a villain who sports a power worthy of her namesake, the power to make people's heads spin. The character is actually named Roscoe Dillon in the comics and is a male. He has a knack for spinning toy tops and uses that skill to fund his life of crime.

The Top is typically seen alongside Flash's other constant nemesis The Mirror Master, so it's fitting that Rickards will debut as the villainous character on episode 4 of Season 3, which will act as an origin story for Mirror Master."

With all of these new and challenging villains showing up, we're expecting to see plenty of white-knuckle action in season 3 of The Flash, which will premiere on The CW on October 4.
