The New Day Wear Red Lanterns Costumes At SummerSlam

The bright stage of SummerSlam is where WWE pulls out the big guns. It's also where The New Day debuted their look straight from the Green Lantern universe.

The New Day faced down the Usos in the ring for the Tag Team Championships, and they did so in style. For their latest look, they pulled inspiration from DC Comics, especially the Green Lantern side of things. Their ring gear was red with black accents, with large black and white symbols on the chest pieces.

If that sounds familiar, it should, as it is the costume of choice for the Red Lantern Corps. The Corps is synonymous with Atrocitus, who leads the Lanterns of Rage over the other Lantern Corps.

It wasn't just a color homage either, as the actual design of the armor and pants echoes the comics, and that symbol might have a horse but it could easily have a lantern.

This isn't the first time The New Day have taken inspiration from geek culture either. They hosted the WrestleMania festivities in Dragon Ball-inspired outfits, with a giant box of Booty O's behind them to complete the look. They didn't stop there either, as they also wore some Final Fantasy-themed gear during the show. This time they traded in the giant box of cereal for their ice cream cart, emblazoned with a chocobo and moogles. For the big three, they chose outfits based on jobs from Final Fantasy, including a Monk, Samurai, and Red Mage.

So what can fans expect from their appearance at WrestleMania next year? Perhaps a different Lantern Corps? Or maybe they'll recreate something from Marvel, perhaps an X-Men-inspired look. Who knows, but it will definitely be entertaining.

As for SummerSlam, The New Day fought hard against the Usos for the right to hold the Smackdown Live Tag Team Championship belts. In fact, it was one of the best matches on the entire card, and the Usos had to pull out everything to keep Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, and Big E at bay. They ultimately claimed victory thanks to Big E taking a slew of superkicks on the chin before hitting him with two splashes from the top rope.
