Tom Welling Returns to DC Television in Lucifer Season 3

Famous for playing Clark Kent/Superman for ten seasons on The CW's Smallville, Tom Welling will return to DC television with a role on FOX's Lucifer in its third season, according to Variety.

Welling will reportedly play "Marcus Pierce, an accomplished police lieutenant. While he's reserved and well-respected, like Lucifer (Tom Ellis), he's charming, charismatic and handsome. So when Pierce starts developing a connection with Decker (Lauren German), the devil comes out in Lucifer."

In addition to starring in Smallville, the actor also served as an executive producer and even directed a handful of episodes.

This isn't the first time a former DC actor made the move to a new TV series to portray a new character, with Brandon Routh, who starred as Superman in Superman Returns, currently starring as Ray Palmer/The Atom on Legends of Tomorrow after debuting in Arrow, in addition to Dean Cain, who starred as Superman in Lois & Clark before appearing in Supergirl.

One of the biggest mysteries for Lucifer in the upcoming season will be discovering why his wings have returned as well as who has kidnapped him.
