Warner Bros. Reportedly Taking Its Time Finding The Flash's New Director

Given how fast the Flash moves, the hero's own feature film has been limping along. The movie was pacing quickly once news broke that Ezra Miller had been cast to play Barry Allen, but progress stalled after a series of hurdles. The film got knocked back when Seth Grahame-Smith exited the film's director chair. Then, the project took another blow when new director Rick Famuyiwa also jumped ship over reported creative differences.

Since Famuyiwa's departure, word about The Flash has been hard to come by. Warner Bros. is gearing up with DC Entertainment to release Wonder Wonder this summer before Justice League makes its heralded debut. Still, fans of the speedster are curious about the studio's take on the film as its slated 2018 premiere looks less likely by the day.

Over on Twitter, one reporter and DC insider is looking to clarify at least one thing for fans. Variety's Justin Kroll took to social media to respond to a follow who lamented the lack of updates regarding The Flash. The reporter said the lapse isn't something to be concerned about at this time since Miller has other projects he is giving priority to.

Specifically, Kroll mentioned Miller's continued work with the Fantastic Beasts franchise. The actor joined the magical series last year when its first film premiered, and reports have said Miller would return for the sequel in one shape or form. With the actor busy in JK Rowling's wizarding world, Kroll writes that the studio is "taking time finding [a] director while he shoots" the new film.

For fans, the decision to take things slow will sit well with them. After all,The Flash has lost two directors already; They do not want another person to sign on only to vacate in a few months. The choice to slow down is difficult to do, and it may seem totally counterintuitive to everything The Flash stands for. But, hey - the speedster can take a breather when need be.

Fans have yet to receive any updates about the The Flash and its premiere date concerns. The feature is still set to debut on March 16, 2018, giving Warner Bros. less than a year to go all the way through pre-production to a full-on premiere. The studio will either need to fully abide by its choice to take some time and push the date back. Or, if Warner Bros. is feeling confident, they can put all their resources into making sure The Flash still races towards the intended premiere.

Either way, it looks likeThe Flash is still very much on the mind of Warner Bros. as the studio continues to expand the DC Extended Universe. Barry Allen better enjoy this break while he can; He's going to ask to hit the ground running whenever The Flash officially gets underway.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Ciarán Hinds, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons and Jesse Eisenberg.

Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017, while The Batman lands sometime in 2018.
