Wonder Woman is Officially The Highest-Grossing DCEU Movie Domestically

Wonder Woman has done it. The first major female superhero film (from a female director, no less) has risen to become the top-earning movie in the DC Extended Universe lineup (domestically), thanks to this week's box office returns.

When last we checked, Wonder Woman was just about beat Suicide Squad's domestic box office total of $325.1 million. The final stretch to the weekend will not only push Wonder Woman past Suicide Squad, but also Batman v Superman's $330 million in domestic earnings, as well.

As Mashable points out, Wonder Woman is not just beating her DCEU counterparts, but doing so in record time. The film has been out for just four weeks, while Batman v Superman earned its total in twelve weeks, and Suicide Squad in fourteen weeks. Rounding out the DCEU is Man of Steel, which only earned $291 million in fourteen weeks.

It doesn't take a professional analyst to observe that Wonder Woman's rapid ascent to the top of the DCEU moneybox is the result of two factors:

1. The initial milestone appeal of the genre's first big female-driven film.
2. Extremely strong word-of-mouth, which is a testament to the quality film that director Patty Jenkins crafted.

Now that Wonder Woman has cleared the bar of previous DCEU films, it remains to be seen how far she carries the bar and where she finally sets it down, as the new standard for how a DCEU movie should perform.

To all those that doubted the film, its choice in director, or the casting of lead actress Gal Gadot: "How 'Bout Dat?"

Wonder Woman is in theaters now, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
