Wonder Woman's Headpiece's Original Owner Revealed

Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman is equipped with several iconic and powerful weapons, from the Lasso of Truth to her bracelets to her sword and shield and the very armor she wears. It may be surprising then that the armament in Wonder Woman's arsenal that carries the most emotional weight is the headpiece that rests on her brow, which comes from her aunt Antiope.

The story of that headpiece is told along with Princess Diana's origin in Wonder Woman. Diana is raised by her mother, Queen Hippolyta, and trained by Antiope. That training is needed when Steve Trevor crash lands on Themiscyra with the German army following behind him during World War I.

Antiope, said by Hippolyta to be the greatest general in Amazon history, lead the Amazons in defending their home. The Amazons are successful, but not without cost. Antiope is shot in battle by a German soldier and dies on the beach.

After the battle, Queen Hippolyta refuses to allow Diana to return Steve Trevor to the world of man out of fear that he'll lead more soldiers to Themiscyra. Diana decides that's she's going to take him anyway. Queen Hippolyta finds them on the beach as they're preparing to leave and, during a tense and tearful goodbye, Hippolyta gives Antiope's headpiece to Diana.

Later in the film, Diana puts on the headpiece just before taking a stand and stepping out into "No Man's Land" during one fo the film's standout scenes.
