Fans have waited a long time for this!

You could spend days upon days watching all of the Superman and Batman films that have been produced over the decades, but for whatever reason, it took 76 years for Wonder Woman to get just one of her own.

So, yeah, fans were eager to turn out this past weekend and see the iconic DC Comics character -- who has been a global symbol of strength and equality -- appear on the big screen for the first time. Making it especially satisfying for her fans, it was directed by a woman, Monster-helmer Patty Jenkins, is the best-reviewed film in Warner Bros.' burgeoning DC Extended Universe, and its PG-13 rating made parents everywhere feels comfortable bringing their children to go see it.

"I knew it was going to be PG-13, and there's so much there for adults, but also that little girls were going to want to see it, so I tried to make it as safe as possible," Jenkins told the NY Times. "If we succeeded in bringing something to people while they're growing up, that would be something."
