More than 75 years after the character appeared in the pages of All Star Comics #8, Wonder Woman finally starred in her own feature film courtesy of director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot.

Though Gadot first debuted as the character during Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Jenkins film is a refreshing take on the superhero genre during which she tells the origins of Diana, Themyscira, and her family of the Amazons.

The specific sequence that features the history of her people is breathtaking, utilizing a classic aesthetic of featured in historic paintings of Greek mythology. It is one huge, detailed image, with focal points blown up to show specific moments in their tragic story.

The artwork was created by the collective at Aaron Sims Creative, including Houston Sharp, Igor Sid, Piotr Jablonski, Yuriy Chemezov, Roman Kupriyanov, Eve Ventrue, Max Schulz, Didier Konings with art direction by Sharp and Raffy Ochoa.

Now Sharp has posted some hi-res images of the art to his personal Facebook and ArtStation pages (which you can see in our photo gallery on the following pages), along with some words about the process of working on the film.

"I had the pleasure and honor of working with Patty Jenkins and her team to create the animated painting at the beginning of Wonder Woman. It was a huge undertaking, but I had a small team of super-talented artists to help finish it on time, and Patty & Co. were very supportive along the way.

"Each panel was painted separately, and stitched together into one massive painting. We tried achieving a classical oil painting look, while working in a way that was easy for the animators to work with (which meant keeping everything on their own layers, painting behind figures, etc.). It took a lot of planning and coordination between multiple artists, but it was well worth the challenge."

It's awesome to be able to take in all of the art team's incredible work at once and by itself. It was only featured in the film very briefly, but it was an amazing sequence and a fittingly creative way to tell their history.

Now can we get some oversized prints of these from Warner Bros.? Please?

Wonder Woman is in theaters now.
