Gal Gadot Talks The Pressures And Privileges Of Playing Wonder Woman

It's not everyday an actress is asked to play one of pop culture's most iconic heroines. Even so, Gal Gadot has managed to handle the request with ease. After debuting Diana Prince in the DCEU in Batman v Superman, the star will reprise the heroic role in Wonder Woman. Now, the actress is opening up about the gig's darker side as Gadot admits playing Wonder Woman is plenty stressful.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gadot chatted with co-star Chris Pine about the film. It was there the actress admitted she did feel pressured by the role, but the job's privileges far outweigh the stress.

"You could say that I felt some pressure. I feel very privileged that I got the opportunity to portray such an iconic, strong female character," Gadot said.

"I adore this character and everything that she stands for and everything that she symbolizes. But of course this character is so big and iconic, and the expectations that all of the fans have for it are huge. Hopefully after they watch the movie they'll be pleased."

When it comes to Wonder Woman's impact on Gadot, the star admitted she does not even remember when she first heard of the character; Instead, the actress said Wonder Woman has always just been a part of her life.

"To be honest, I don't remember the very first time I was introduced to this character. Wonder Woman is a household name. Growing up, I always knew of Wonder Woman. When the TV show with Lynda Carter was on, I was too young to watch it, but I always knew of Wonder Woman," Gadot explained.

Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.

Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins, from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg & Geoff Johns, story by Heinberg & Zack Snyder and Jason Fuchs, and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner and David Thewlis.

Wonder Woman opens in theaters June 2, 2017.
