Wonder Woman Set To Haul In Over $200 Million Worldwide

Wonder Woman is a certified hit for Warner Bros., both in domestic markets and across the world.

Patty Jenkins' blockbuster has been raking in big box office bucks since its debut on Thursday night, powering its way to an impressive $100.5 million opening weekend stateside. And it looks to be taking in similar figures worldwide.

International estimates put Wonder Woman at about $122.5 million in box office sales, totaling $223 in total gross for its opening.


The DC Comics hero boasts a few other bragging rights—not only having the best opening weekend of a film directed by a woman or based on a female comic book superhero, but having a greater international opening than the first two Iron Man movies, the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, the first two Captain America movies, Man of Steel, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and Thor: The Dark World.

The film also outgrossed the entire global total of Green Lantern, which brought in $219 million, just in its opening weekend.

When it's all said and done, Wonder Woman could be the biggest superhero movie from Warner Bros. that isn't about Batman or Superman.

It's a major victory for Warner Bros. and its DC Films division, which have been commercial successes but received mix reviews from fans and critics alike. But Wonder Woman boasts an A CinemaScore and is Certified Fresh from Rotten Tomatoes, meaning audiences will continue to show up for the Princess of Themyscira's origin story.

The film will face stiff competition in the following weeks as The Mummy is set to debut June 9, Cars 3 following June 16, and Transformers: The Last Knight debuting June 23.

But Wonder Woman has made an impressive debut, allowing Gal Gadot and Jenkins to take a bow for their hard work. It's a well deserved victory and a breath of fresh air in today's cinematic climate, and now fans patiently await word of the inevitable sequel.
