'Wonder Woman' Annihilates 'The Mummy' At Thursday Box Office

Wonder Woman was projected to continue its box office dominance this weekend, and handily beat newcomer The Mummy. However, after Thursday night, it's shaping up to be an absolute slaughter.

A preview night is usually a good indicator for how well a movie will perform that weekend, and The Mummy didn't fare well. According to Deadline, the first film in the monster-oriented Dark Universe only raked in $2.66 million on its preview night.

Wonder Woman, on the other hand, has shown a continued dominance. After breaking records with a $103 million opening weekend, the numbers are still trending well. The Patty Jenkins-led adventure raked in $9.2 million on Thursday.

For those of you asking about the math, that's over triple the haul of The Mummy. What makes things worse is that Wonder Woman has already been in the theater for seven days. The Mummy is off to an incredibly shaky start.

The latest box office predictions have The Mummy tracking at $32 million in its opening weekend. On a reported budget that falls somewhere between $125M-$195M, that's beyond disappointing.

With the increased optimism surrounding Wonder Woman, the film is expected to have a stellar sophomore performance this weekend, on pace to make between $50M-$60M.
