DCEU Producer Raves About Wonder Woman's Fish Out Of Water Scenes

A lot of Wonder Woman's humor derives from its fish-out-of-water moments.
Like Ariel in The Little Mermaid (1989) and Daryl Hannah's Madison in Splash (1984), Diana will be looking at the world of man with fresh eyes, making light and fun observations along the way. Just from the clips and behind-the-scenes footage that have been released, we know that Diana is going to marvel at how wonderful ice cream tastes and be confused when Steve Trevor tries to explain that her skin-bearing superhero-suit needs to be covered up when walking around the streets of London.
"One of the great things that came with [Director] Patty [Jenkins] was this great use of Diana's naiveté from living such a sheltered life on Themyscira," producer Charles Roven told Collider. "So even though she ends up […] becoming a fighter, she's still pretty sheltered because she's never been off the island. So she's got no life experience really. When she meets a man for the first time that gives you great potential humor, and when she goes off the island there's great potential humor just in her sense of what life is like and her finding out what life is like in man's world. So a lot of the humor of the movie, or the circumstances, was pulled out by Patty."

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Joining Gal Gadot in the international cast are Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. Patty Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder and Allan Heinberg, based on characters from DC Entertainment. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.
The film is produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Richard Suckle, with Rebecca Roven, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers. Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with RatPac-Dune Entertainment, an Atlas Entertainment/Cruel and Unusual production, Wonder Woman.
The film will be released on June 2, 2017.
