Age of Empires 4 Announced, Previous Games Getting Remastered

For those of you who have been trying (and failing) to fill that strategy game void in your lives with the likes of Halo Wars and StarCraft II, Relic and Microsoft revealed that Age of Empires IV is coming to Windows 10. We got a brief but epic teaser trailer, but unfortunately no gameplay. Watch the trailer above, and get hyped!

This wasn't the only announcement for real-time strategy fans to get excited about, though. It was also revealed that, along with Age of Empires IV, definitive versions of the original games are on the way as well. The announcement began with a features list for Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, which is extensive:

This is one of those remasters that we're actually tempted to call a remake. If you saw the video, then you'll see that the sprites have been completely reworked from top to bottom. This isn't just a resolution bump. We expect that all three versions will get the same treatment across the board, but as stated, additional details about the remasters of AoE II and III are on the way.

There's also no word on whether these games will be making their way to any other platform other than Windows 10 PCs. We've seen fairly impressive parity between Windows 10 and Xbox One releases, but AoE wasn't exactly built with a controller in mind. There's always the chance that we get the games on tablet and mobile, which would actually be welcome, but if we only see them on PC your writer will still be happy.

We'll have more details on these remasters soon, so stay tuned!
