After much speculation and grumbling from fans, Activision has finally confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will be decoupled from CoD: Infinite Warfare and released as a standalone game. That's great news for CoD fanatics who haven't picked up the game yet, but current Modern Warfare Remastered owners hoped this also meant they'd be freed from certain annoying restrictions – most notably, having to put the CoD: Infinite Warfare disc in every time they wanted to play Modern Warfare Remastered.

No such luck. Those who got Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered as a bonus with Infinite Warfare's Legacy, Digital Deluxe or Legacy Pro editions will continue to be shackled to the unpopular game. Pure PlayStation asked Activision whether current Modern Warfare Remastered players will be able to ditch their Infinite Warfare discs once the standalone edition comes out, and the answer was a big old "no."

It's a disappointing decision, but not a shocking one. Activision probably hopes they can still get a handful of people to buy Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare to get Modern Warfare Remastered for "free," so they won't completely separate them yet. Heck, maybe a few people who already own Modern Warfare Remastered will "upgrade" to the solo version just to free themselves of that Infinite Warfare disc.

The standalone version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will cost $40, and won't include the recently released classic maps DLC (you'll have to pay $15 extra for them). A rather hefty price for an old game, but Activision knows fans are willing to pay.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered comes to PS4 on June 27. Xbox One and PS4 versions are expected to launch a month later. You can check out WWG's latest Call of Duty coverage here.
