Sony's E3 2017 press conference was an impressive show packed with major titles, but some fans were a little put off by how many of them had "2018" dates attached to them. God of War, Spider-Man, and more – all 2018.

Considering how big these games are, most folks assumed 2018 meant "holiday 2018," which only made them grumpier. Well, apparently, Sony's E3 lineup is coming sooner than you might think!

In a recent interview with British newspaper The Telegraph, Sony Interactive Entertainment's American president Shawn Layden pushed back against those somewhat disappointed by his company's upcoming slate of games:

"To be honest, we're already halfway through 2017. I feel the lineup we have coming into the holidays this year [is very strong] and Gran Turismo Sport will launch in the fall. We think there is a lot of attention around that title from our company. And the stuff coming in 2018, all of that is coming in the first half of the year. Is it in the next 12 to 13 months? Most likely, so."

Well, suddenly the first half of 2018 sounds pretty amazing! God of War, Spider-Man and Shadow of the Colossus should get the year off to a killer start. It seems Sony is increasingly side-stepping the Holiday crunch, as this year saw them release big games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Gravity Rush 2, and Nioh early. The reality is, people are going to buy big Sony exclusives whenever they're released, so why not drop them in January or March when there's very little competition?

Any hey, who knows? Maybe late 2018 will be just as big as the first half of the year! Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has admitted the company has some big exclusives in the works they intentionally didn't show at this year's E3. It seems late 2017 may just be the lull before the storm.
