Agents Of SHIELD Season 5 Episode Count, Time Slot Confirmed

ABC has confirmed that Marvel's Agents of SHIELD will be back for a full 22-episode run in the 2017-2018 television season.

ABC released its full fall schedule earlier today. The schedule revealed the Marvel's The Inhumans will debut on Friday nights at 9 p.m. Marvel's Agents of SHIELD was said to be a midseason replacement, leading some fans to wonder if the show's fifth season had been cut short. However, ABC now says that Marvel's Agents of SHIELD will take over the Inhumans timeslot sometime after the Inhumans' eight-episode season has aired, possibly at midseason break.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD will be joined by Once Upon a Time in making the switch ABC's Friday nights schedule.

"We've turned Friday into more of a destination for our fantasy and science fiction fans," ABC Chief Channing Dungey told reporters Tuesday morning (via Entertainment Weekly). "Once Upon a Time and SHIELD are airing on the same night for the first time, which is giving many fans of both shows what they've been asking for for a long time.

"When we were looking at the schedule, it's interesting how much pressure we've had from fans to put those shows closer together on the schedule for quite some time," Dungey continued. "We like the idea of Fridays being a destination. Once Upon a Time has done a wonderful job on Sundays of keeping the lights on against football, but we're looking to see how it will perform when it's away from football for awhile."

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD has been part of ABC's Tuesday night lineup since 2013, though. The show's time slot has been pushed back later and later, beginning at 8 p.m. ET for its first season, moving to 9 p.m. for seasons two and three, and occupying the 10 p.m. slot in its fourth season.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD's fourth season finale, titled "World's End," airs tonight at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. In "World's End," with the surprising emergence of Ghost Rider, Coulson and the team attempt to stop Aida from ending the world.

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns with a vengeance for the fourth exciting season in an all new time period, Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. ET. In the aftermath of their journey to another planet, Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the rest of the team were driven more than ever to put an end to the Hydra organization. Little did they know that they were up against the deadliest threat they've ever faced – an extremely powerful Inhuman, Hive, who was transported back from Maveth in the body of their worst enemy, Grant Ward. The team was able to thwart and kill Hive and take down Hydra, but they are all still mourning the death of fellow agent and Inhuman, Lincoln Campbell.
