Ghost Rider is back for the Marvel's Agents of SHIELD fourth season finale, and he's returned with a vengeance.

Ghost Rider, played by Gabriel Luna, returned at the end of last week's episode of Agents of SHIELD, "The Return," and he'll be a part of the season finale episode, "World's End," as well. However, Ghost Rider has been absent from the Agents of SHIELD story since before AIDA began enacting her evil plot and trapped Phil Coulson and his team in the Framework. So how then does he fit into that story's climax?

"I think that he tends to show up to solve problems," executive producer Jed Whedon tells ComicBook.com. "As they say in the comics, 'innocent blood has been spilled.'"

Whedon went on to say that Ghost Rider and AIDA share a connection through the Darkhold, dark matter, and the dark Hell dimension that lies beyond the physical plane.

"I think that it is not a coincidence that the most powerful creature has created itself using dark matter and that a person who was banished to that dimension where they're pulling that matter from has shown up. I don't think that is a coincidence. So how will it explode into glorious fireworks? We'll see."

Ghost Rider disappeared into that dark dimension, along with his evil uncle Eli Morrow, in the winter finale of Agents of SHIELD. His timely return may prove to be key in SHIELD stopping AIDA's plan.

In "World's End," with the surprising emergence of Ghost Rider, Coulson and the team attempt to stop Aida from ending the world.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD's fourth season finale, "World's End," airs Tuesday, May 16 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns with a vengeance for the fourth exciting season in an all new time period, Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. ET. In the aftermath of their journey to another planet, Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the rest of the team were driven more than ever to put an end to the Hydra organization. Little did they know that they were up against the deadliest threat they've ever faced – an extremely powerful Inhuman, Hive, who was transported back from Maveth in the body of their worst enemy, Grant Ward. The team was able to thwart and kill Hive and take down Hydra, but they are all still mourning the death of fellow agent and Inhuman, Lincoln Campbell.
