Agents of SHIELD Hydra Arc Premiere Synopsis and Photos

Agents of SHIELD is taking a page out of The Matrix, by transporting its titular SHIELD team inside of "The Framework," a virtual world created by the late Dr. Radcliffe, which has been usurped by his LMD creation, Aida. With only Simmons and Quake still free of Aida's control, the ladies must navigate the Framework to free their friends, without getting lost in the false world themselves.

dAs you can see in the trailer above and in the photos within our gallery, the world that Quake and Simmons enter will be very different indeed. The end of the previous episode, "Self Control," gave us a taste of the this third and final story arc for season 4, which is deliciously titled "Agents of HYDRA." Yes, in this Framework reality, things have gone very differently indeed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe...

Marvel Comics fans will also enjoy the Easter egg of this latest episode title, "What If..." signifying the classic Marvel Comics story brand for tales set in alternate versions of the central continuity. Read on for a more detailed synopsis of the episode.

"What If…" – Hail the New World Order! Daisy and Simmons uncover secrets and lies in a world gone mad. With Hydra in control, they are our only hope to save everyone, on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," TUESDAY, APRIL 4 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network.

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso "Mack" MacKenzie and John Hannah as Holden Radcliffe.

Guest starring are Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, Mallory Jansen as Aida, Manish Dayal as Vijay Nadeer, Brandon Morales as Agent Pinsky, Taj Speights as Burnell, Chad Wood as Agent Slate, and Jade Harlow as Julia Price and Skyler James as Chris Adler.
