An Infinity Stone Gets A Major Upgrade

The Infinity Stones are some of the most powerful items in the galaxy, but it seems one, in particular, decided that wasn't enough.

Spoilers incoming for Guardians of the Galaxy #147, so if you haven't read the issue yet you've been warned.

The issue features Star-Lord and Nova in an impromptu team-up as they hunt for the Infinity Stones. They end up finding one in an unlikely place, but that still doesn't explain why there's a giant Infinity Stone on a random planet. Yep, that's right, a giant Infinity Stone.

Star-Lord and Nova (Richard Rider) end up finding an unauthorized Nova facility o the planet Xitaung, and they aren't exactly welcomed with open arms. After getting shot with a laser cannon, the two heroes go on the offensive, busting through the walls and taking out soldiers in Nova Corps gear. This is understandable though, as Nova has a mission directing him to sort out the bad apples and turncoats in the Nova Corps.

Things take a turn though when Rider takes a blast from a senior Nova member, one who happens to be pregnant. That isn't stopping her from just about knocking Rider out, and the only thing that makes her back down is Rider's willingness to give up his helmet to her. Her name is Eve Bakian, and this facility went dark a while ago because they had saboteurs of their own.

There's an even bigger reason though why they went dark, and after she gives Rider his helmet back she explains why they put up heavy defenses at this base. They discovered something big at the site, and that's when one of their own tried to get a signal out to the Shi'ar. After they deal with that threat they disguised it under a cooling tower. She leads them inside and reveals a massive pink Infinity Stone. Now, when we say massive, we mean it, as the stone is literally the size of the cooling tower it is housed under.

What does this mean for the other stones? Who knows, but you can see the spoiler images in the gallery.

Guardians of the Galaxy #147 is in stores now.
