Captain America Calls Journalism, Science, And History 'Fake News'

Captain America is a strong proponent of American ideals unshackled by political ideology. He supports Truth, Justice, and the American Way—or at least he did, until the ole' Cosmic Cube changed reality (or put it back the way it was?) and made him the staunchest member of Hydra.

But the Cube's magic didn't just fundamentally alter everything the character stands for, it also apparently made him a huge fan of InfoWars.

In the latest issue from Nick Spencer, Andres Guinaldo, Ramon Bachs, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Joe Caramagna's Captain America: Steve Rogers comic book, the character labels a reporter's work as 'Fake News.'

The scene takes place in issue #17 of the series, commentating on the current state of politics and government in the United States—except for that whole "let's murder Las Vegas" bit. Journalist Sally Floyd interviews Rogers about his heel turn and how he was able to betray the ideals he fought and died for in the first Civil War event.

Then Rogers straight up accuses her of lying to the American public.

When Floyd brings up the historians and scientists who side against Rogers, he then goes all "pot-kettle-black" by calling Tony Stark and Hank Pym corrupt cowards.

All of this comes as Rogers himself lies to Floyd about the state of the Inhumans incarceration as a "humane" option, as well as continuing the deception that he did not allow the mutants to exist as a sovereign territory in New Tian so long as they stayed out of the United States.

It's all standard villain affair, even more despicable given the fact that it's Steve Rogers playing the role of despot and not Apocalypse or the Red Skull or Doctor Doom.

The issue ends with Floyd being jailed after putting Rogers on the spot about the massacre in Vegas, and Rogers winking at the reader while making a joke about Twitter outrage. A manipulative ruler's work is never done.
