'Daredevil' Star Teases 'Born Again' For Season 3

When Daredevil returns for Season Three in 2018, it will be taking a page from one of the most influential storyline in the character's run at Marvel Comics.

Series lead Charlie Cox spoke about the new season and how it will play off of the events of The Defenders. He also revealed how excited he was to see an iconic scene from David Mazzucchelli and Frank Miller's Born Again take place in the closing moments of the crossover series.

"That's such an amazing story. Everyone who loves Daredevil loves Born Again," Cox said to the Hollywood Reporter when asked if the new season will use the comic as a blueprint. "You can't not. And if that's the case, then the implications of that would be very exciting to me. That would be great."

But there are a lot of elements from Born Again that are likely to be off limits to the Netflix series, considering the huge role that Captain America plays in the comic. There's also the fact that Karen Page becomes a prostitute and gets addicted to heroin…

Cox added that there will probably be a lot of changes to the possible TV adaptation of the storyline.

"Having said that, I know we don't tend to follow any story blueprints too closely, because if you do, then you become a foregone conclusion," Cox said. "There may be elements from Born Again, but I'm sure there will be elements that are unfamiliar and surprising and different in order for the show to be compelling to fans who know the comics very well. If we start making Born Again page-for-page, then the people who have read it and loved it — the hardcore fans — they won't have too much drama."

It sounds like Cox is open to changing things up for the Netflix series, which would probably be better for the characters in the long run. While the story is still considered a classic among fans, especially for the religious visual motifs and its relevance to Matt Murdock's faith (Mazzucchelli is a beast), there are many aspects that haven't aged well.

We'll find out more when Daredevil returns next year.

For now, you can stream The Defenders on Netflix.

Marvel's The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
