Daredevil Season 3 Casting Rumors Signal Major Course Change

It has been awhile since Daredevil popped onto Netflix for a solo outing, but the site hopes to change that soon. Once Marvel's The Defenders airs in August, Daredevil will be given the all-clear to begin work on his awaited third season. The comeback will hopefully be littered with new faces, but one rumor suggest a returning actor may signal a shift in the show's focus.

As reported by MCU Exchange, IMDb has updated its Daredevil roster for season three to include a familiar name. Peter McRobbie is said to return in the first episode of Daredevil's next season, and fans will know the man as Father Lantom. The priest is a recurring one in the Marvel series, and his return in season three could hint at Matthew Murdock's return to the church.

Of course, there's no official word on McRobbie's return, but fans should not be surprised by the comeback. Father Lantom was a central figure in the first season of Daredevil. The priest provided spiritual guidance to Matthew as the blind vigilante wrestled with his inner-demons. However, when season two rolled around, the priest had a far more lax presence. Father Lantom only appeared in front of Matthew at a funeral, so Daredevil could seek out his mentor's advice in the wake season two's fallout.

After all, the vigilante does have a lot of baggage to work through. The end of season two saw Matthew lose his former lover Elektra and friendship with Foggy Nelson. He may have gained a budding romance with Karen Paige, but Daredevil was kicked well into the ground. The Defenders also promises to take the blind hero to task as a secretive organization in New York City comes face-to-face with some of Marvel's toughest heroes. Given Matthew's reliance on faith, it is not surprising to learn the boy might need to do some serious praying after all of this.

The last time Charlie Cox talked about his return as Daredevil, the actor said the man will be focusing on his non-Daredevil life. Part of that focus may very well extend into his Catholic faith, and Father Lantom could help Matthew through some much-needed confessions. That is, assuming the priest isn't killed off in some sort of retaliatory attack against Daredevil. If that were to happen, there is no telling how Matthew would respond.

Marvel's The Defenders is the miniseries that will bring together all of Marvel's Netflix stars, including Iron Fist (Finn Jones) Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Luke Cage (Mike Colter), to protect New York City from its greatest threat yet.

Marvel's The Defenders is developed by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. The miniseries will also feature Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and several recurring guest stars from Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage, and Marvel's Iron Fist, including Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

Marvel's The Defenders premieres on Netflix on Aug. 18, 2017.
