Deadpool 2: New Cable Images Hint At Time Travel Flashback

Better Days
This photo is getting some interest because the version of Cable it depicts is arguably a younger one than we saw in the first-look photos. The main sticking point of this theory is Cable's cybernetic eye: it doesn't appear to be there... at least not yet.
The question, of course, is whether this is an earlier period (our future) in Cable's life? Or does his eye simply not stay lit all of the time? The second new photo may (or may not) have something to do with all this...
Rough Times
This new photo has some speculating that the scene depicted here could be the origin moment of Cable's cybernetic eye. It's a pretty large jump to an important conclusion - one that arguably creates more problems than solutions.
Cable's comic book origin has him covered in cybernetic (or "bionic") parts due to an advanced techno virus he was infected with by the villain Apocalypse. The virus was the entire reason his father, Cyclops, had him sent into the future, where he could be healed.
Deadpool will definitely introduce the time-travel aspect of Cable's story. However if his metal parts are now added bits of futuristic cyber-tech, instead of a virus kept in check by his psychic powers, it would raise even more questions about how this version of Cable fits into the larger X-Men movie universe.
It's possible that Cable is slowly losing his battle with the virus over time, becoming more an more metallic in the process. That would be an interesting way to show the character's progression, and help mark time periods the film could visit (Deadpool does love his flashback sequences). We'll find out more soon, no doubt.
Deadpool 2 will be in theaters on June 1, 2018.
