Deadpool 2: Russell Crowe Interested in Playing Cable?

Deadpool 2 seems to be moving in a forward direction, and soon the studio will have to make a decision on its casting of the time-traveling mutant Cable, who will play a big part in the forthcoming sequel. A recent conversation on Twitter might have added a new name to that cast list.

Cable creator Rob Liefeld took to Twitter and shared his newest pick for the Deadpool 2 role (a film that currently sits at 4.18 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings), a name most will be quite familiar with. Liefeld sent a tweet to Les Miserables and Man of Steel star Russell Crowe and said "you should read for #Cable in Deadpool and X-Force. Just sayin..." That prompted a quick response from Crowe, who said: "I should read for it?"

That could have been the end of it, but Crowe responded saying "I'm sure if @VancityReynolds has any interest in that idea he'll find a way." That prompted one more tweet from Liefeld to Crowe and Reynolds saying "forgive me sir. It's an absolutely irresistible notion."

Later Liefeld tweeted "Note to self, don't caffeine tweet @russellcrowe before nodding off to sleep."

Here's the thing. Nowhere in all of that did Crowe ever say no, and it can't go unnoticed that he tagged Reynolds in the second response. Crowe certainly has the commanding presence needed for someone like Cable, and regardless of what you thought of Man of Steel, his performance as Jor-El was quite positively received.

There was a time where big name actors like Crowe would avoid projects like this at all costs. It's amazing to see how the genre has evolved, and who knows, Crowe just might be suiting up next to Deadpool sooner than you think.

Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand and Stefan Kapičić.

Deadpool's Holiday Blu-ray package is now available and retails for $25.99. Deadpool 2 is expected to begin filming next year and is due out January 12, 2018.
