Deadpool Knocks Star Wars: The Force Awakens Off The Top Of Home Media Sales Charts

Deadpool is conquering home video sales just as it conquered the box office.

The film debuted on Blu-ray on May 10, and topped the NPD VideoScan overall disc sales chart and NPD VideoScan's dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart for the week ending May 15.

Deadpool's release knocks Star Wars: The Force Awakens out of the top spot. The Force Awakens was previously dethroned by another 20th Century Fox film, The Revenant, but reclaimed its spot on the top of the pile in later weeks.

Deadpool released on Digital HD 11 days before its physical home media release. It sold a record-setting 1 million digital downloads in its first week.

Deadpool also set records at the box office. It had the highest opening weekend gross of any R-rated movie ever, and went on to become the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time worldwide.

Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller, with a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, and Leslie Uggams.

Deadpool is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
