James Gunn Hints At The Release Of 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3'

Marvel Studios has a clear thing for trilogies. Iron Man and Captain America have already gotten their third films, and Thor will soon join the gang. Guardians of the Galaxy will be the next franchise to jump in, and fans have a better idea now of when the sequel will hit.

Earlier today, director James Gunn headed to Facebook to send a heartfelt thanks to his UK fans. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had a killer week abroad in Blu-ray and DVD sales, but it is the director's impromptu comment section Q&A that has fans buzzing.

After a fan asked Gun when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will come out, Gunn had the following to say: "In a little under 3 years."

Of course, the director isn't able to give a more concise premiere date. Marvel Studios is still shuffling its release dates around for any post-Avengers 4 feature. The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming will join the third Guardians of the Galaxy film in the MCU's next phase, but it seems like Gunn is gunning for a 2020 debut.

The timeline makes sense when you look at the MCU's previous releases. Iron Man 2 premiered in 2010 before Iron Man 3 came to theaters in 2013. Captain America had a rush put on its third film since there were only two years between The Winter Soldier and Civil War. Marvel Studios has a neat clock ticking down to all of its projects, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has its place in line now.

In the past, Gunn has assured fans he is in the know about his third film's expected premiere. The director told fans this year he knows "when the basic time" of the release will be. Gunn also said he expects production to begin on the sequel in "a little more than a year." The director is currently writing the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and fans should know better than to rush perfection.

If you are curious as to what the third film will cover, then join the club. Gunn has been rightly secretive about the project, but he did tell fans the following about the feature:

"The truth is, the first movie is the first act, the second movie is the second act, and the third movie is the third act so I'm tying a lot of stuff together in the third film. We get a lot of answers on a lot of different things, so doing that in an elegant way takes a little bit of grace and elegance. It's more challenging in that respect writing the third movie than the second movie."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now available on Digital HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Give the film your personal rating below!
