Is Russell Crowe Teasing Playing Cable In Deadpool 2?

A few days ago, Russell Crowe exchanged a few tweets with Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld. The actor is clearly interested in playing the role of Cable in Deadpool 2, which is turning out to be the hottest gig in Hollywood at the moment.

After a conversation which encouraged Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds to get Crowe an audition for the role with Liefeld, a few days have gone by with nothing new surfacing regarding Crowe and the role of Cable. However, Crowe took to Twitter on Monday to share a picture of some impressive fan art which mocks up himself in the role and asked for Liefeld's approval.

Now, this is likely nothing more than Crowe being coy and teasing his interest in a hot ticket role but there's always the possibility that more is going on behind the scenes and we'll soon hear Crowe nabbed the role. Check out the tweet below and decide for yourself.

Liefeld responded to Crowe, offering his opinion of the art featuring Crowe as Cable being "freaking awesome." The art was created by James Raiz (see more of his work here).

With Logan hitting theaters this weekend, Deadpool 2 will become the focus from 20th Century Fox. Despite the film reportedly being pushed back to June for production, some news will likely begin to trickle out as the studio gears up to shoot and releases official casting announcements. It's entirely possible a casting announcement could come in the form of a fourth-wall breaking post-credits scene after Logan, especially considering the studio added 3 minutes to its run time following press screenings.

Deadpool 2 has earned a 4.18 out of 5 Anticipation Ranking in the ComicBook.com movies database, currently giving it the seventh rank of over 30 announced comic book films.

Deadpool 2 would not be Crowe's first go with comic book films. The actor played Superman's father, Jor-El, in 2013's Man of Steel.
