Luke Cage Season 2 May Begin Production Soon

Fans are looking forward to seeing the Marvel heroes of the Netflix universe unite in the upcoming Defenders series, but the next phase is already underway. Now that full docket might be getting another addition very soon.

There are rumblings out in social media land that indicate Netflix and Marvel might be starting production on season 2 of Luke Cage. The first of those rumblings came from Misty Knight actress Simone Missick. She tweeted a photo of herself at the gym (via ScreenRant) that said "Day 1: Back at it. Til' the sweat... 💦 💪🏾#mistyknight #mistysofit #actorslife #cardio #weighttraining" The character will also be making an appearance in The Defenders, but this seems more in line with a new season of Cage, as Defenders has already been mostly shot.

The second piece of evidence is courtesy of some signs that have started popping up on social media. Twitter user heidela shared a photo of a sign that read TIARA, with another piece of paper stapled to it that said "set". Tiara was the working title of the original season of Luke Cage as well, so it makes sense that they would use it again for the sophomore outing. If that is indeed the case, it follows recent announcements for Jessica Jones season 2 and Daredevil season 3, seasons that were oft-requested by fans.

Cage director Cheo Hodari Coker spoke about the potential for a season 2 last year, saying "Now in my mind — we don't go into Heroes for Hire in Season One of Luke Cage — Luke Cage Season One is ultimately about the evolution of a hero. I think what's appealing about Luke is the fact that he's just somebody who's just your normal, average guy. He presents himself that way. He's not pretentious, but then at the same time, feels a responsibility to kind of push forward. We're not treating it as a one-off, and I'm confident people will dig the show, but, trust me, like Season Two, I've got a few ideas. But we really won't get ready until Netflix sees the viewership, and hopefully, the subscriptions that will come from this show, and then they'll say, "Let's get into it."

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist are all available on Netflix now, and the four heroes will team up in the upcoming Defenders. Somewhere in that mix is also the Punisher series, the second season of Jessica Jones, the third season of Daredevil, and now the second season of Luke Cage, but those have yet to be dated.
