Mantis Has A Surprising Moment With Another Guardian Of The Galaxy

When it comes to Guardians of the Galaxy, the franchise houses some fairly unique characters. After all, the ragtag team of galactic heroes features an assassin, a wayward human, a humanoid tree - and that's just the beginning of their problems. When the franchise makes a comeback later this year with a sequel, a slew of new characters will be introduced to the team. And, now, one of the stars of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is saying her new character has a rather… surprising encounter with a familiar face.

During a set visit, ComicBook.com had the opportunity to speak with Pom Klementieff about her involvement with the sequel. The actress was cast to play the alien Mantis, and Klementieff admits her intuitive role is one that rubs Rocket Raccoon a certain way. When asked whether Mantis interacts with the furry team member, the actress had this to say:

"Yes! There is a funny moment, but I can't really tell. She's trying to connect with him and it doesn't really work."

Of course, it's not too surprising to hear that Mantis might run into some awkward encounters with the team. The character is somewhat of an empath given her ability to detect the emotions of others. And, as fans know, Rocket is not the happiest camper in the Guardians line-up. When the two characters bump heads, it might leave onlookers with a massive headache.

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
