Marvel Announces X-Men Jean Grey Series

Marvel Comis has revealed the third new title in the upcoming relaunch of the X-Men comic book line, dubbed "ResurrXion."

Original X-Men member Jean Grey will headline her own book for the first time. Like previous ResurrXion teasers, the Jean Grey teaser shows fractured images from Grey's long comic book history, including her time with the original X-Men lineup, her transformation into the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix, her return to life to join X-Factor, and her return to the X-Men as part of the 1990s X-Men Gold Team.

There are also images of the time-displaced version of young, original X-Men team member Jean Grey, who has been featured in the pages of All-New X-Men over the last several years.

The "X" placed next to Jean Grey's name is covered in flame. Whether this is just a callback to Jean's time as the Phoenix or an indication that the Phoenix Force may be coming for young Jean, remains to be seen.

The older Jean has been dead in the Marvel Comics universe since the early 2000s when she was killed by a drug-addled Magneto (later retconned to be the mutant Xorn pretending to be Magneto pretending to be Xorn - it's complicated) in the pages of New X-Men.

Jean Grey has benefitted from strong characterization and a lead role in All-New X-Men, turning the young Jean into a fan favourite character. She recently abandoned the All-New X-Men team and is currently part of Storm's team in Extraordinary X-Men.

Jean Grey is the third ResurrXion title announced by Marvel. On Monday, the publisher revealed Iceman #1, and on Tuesday Marvel revealed Weapon X #1. You can see all of the ResurrXion teasers released so far in the gallery below.

Like the other ResurrXion titles, Jean Grey #1 has a spring 2017 release date, which will follow Marvel's Inhumans vs. X-Men event series.

ComicBook.com expects more ResurrXion announcements throughout the week, so be sure to check back for additional coverage of Marvel's ResurrXion X-Men line refresh.
