The Defenders Will Kick Off Marvel's Netflix Phase 2

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are about to enter a new chapter in the saga of Marvel's Netflix shows.

Finn Jones, the actor who plays Iron Fist, told Digital Spy that Marvel's The Defenders "feels like the end of Phase One" and "the beginning of another phase."

"Let's just say there are certain events that happen at the end of The Defenders which are going to rock everyone's world," Jones said. "So people aren't going to be the same after the end of The Defenders."

The reality of the massive story that Marvel is telling with its Netflix shows is only just starting to settle in for the show's stars.

"I don't think we really understood what we'd got ourselves into," Jones said.

"Yeah... that's just a lot to compute," Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil, added. "That's Phase One? How many f**king Phases are there?!

"I go into so many meetings, where they're like, 'We're making this show, but the end goal is that we're gonna rule the world' – and then you do a pilot and it doesn't get picked up to series.

"So I remember signing this contract and just thinking, 'Yeah, let's just deal with Daredevil, shall we? And see how it goes'."

Seems like it went pretty well as the Netflix Marvel train shows no signs of slowing down.

Marvel released a final trailer for The Defenders a few days ago that included a sly reference to the Avengers. Early reviews for Marvel's The Defenders are strong, though fans don't have much longer before they'll be able to judge the series for themselves, and the showrunner promises that the show's four lead heroes will be changed by the time the eight-episode series is done.

Marvel's The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

Marvel's The Defenders premieres on Netflix on Aug. 18, 2017.
