Russo Brothers Confirm Next Two Avengers Movies Still Directly Connected

With Avengers: Infinity War filming officially underway, Marvel Studios released a new behind-the-scenes video kicking things off, giving us new looks at Thanos, the Avengers-Guardians team-up, and even that plucky kid from Queens, Peter Parker. But buried in there was confirmation of something: Despite Marvel Studios officially changing what was announced as "Avengers: Infinity War Part 2" to "Untitled Avengers Sequel," the movies are still closely connected. The directors, the Russo Brothers, and star Robert Downey, Jr. both made reference to the fact during the video.

"Because of what Marvel is, because of what they've done over the last ten years, these next two Avengers films will be an event like no one has ever seen on film before," Joe Russo said in the video. That confirmation, of two films but one event, should put fans' minds at ease a bit.

"The most exciting part is the incredible roster of well-developed characters. It's going to create a really combustible, exciting, massive-scale adventure," he added.

Downey, Jr., returning once again as Iron Man, who kicked this all off in 2008, also alluded to the fact that they'd be shooting both movies back-to-back. Most of these films tend to shoot for about 4 months, but he said they just kicked off a full year of filming.

"Day one of what promises to be a year of fun-filled lensing," Downey said.

Of course, before all of this truly begins next May, we still have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther, which will all hit theaters in the one year ahead of Infinity War's release. It's a good time to be a Marvel Studios fan, that's for sure.
