Ryan Reynolds Comments On When Deadpool 2 Will Begin Filming

Deadpool 2 is a movie that should've come together easily. After the breakout success of the first film, it seemed like star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller were superheroes in their own right. After such a long fight, they had made a new type of superhero movie, and made it into a huge international success.

However, like so many stories in Hollywood, success bred trouble (mo money, mo problems...) and Deadpool 2 hit a creative wall in pre-production, resulting in Tim Miller leaving the project. Since then, John Wick co-director David Leitch has come onboard to helm Deadpool 2 - but a start date on the project has been unclear.

Speaking with MTV News recently, Ryan Reynolds let be known that the new creative team is taking its time to get everything right creatively (including casting the character of Cable) before they jump into production. As Reynolds tells it, "We're still working on it.... We're not going to start until we're ready... Everything feels great. Everybody is seamlessly locked in to the situation. It's been really amazing."

"Amazing" may not be the most immediate word fans come to when describing how Deadpool 2 has taken shape, but at least we now know that:

  1. It seems like the boat has steadied, and creatively, things are on lock.
  2. We have a promising new director for the project in Leitch, who proved he is more than capable, with the awesome John Wick.

That's a good place to be in, as fans want Deadpool 2 done right, rather than just done soon.
