Five theatrical features are on the way from Sony Animation, including sequels in the Smurfs and Hotel Transylvania franchises, plus all new films featuring, yes, Emoji and a new movie currently titled The Star. Spider-Man also gets an animated feature for Christmastime 2018, and is rumored to feature Miles Morales as the lead character. Surf's Up gets a sequel, as well, direct to video in partnership with WWE Studios.

On the television side, Sony Pictures Animation takes advantage of the resurgence of the Ghotstbusters franchise with Ghostbusters: Ecto Force, taking place not in the timeline of any of the three films, but instead in the future of 2050.
