Charlie Cox Tried To Break Finn Jones On The Set Of 'The Defenders'

The latest series from Marvel and Netflix put the heroes of New York City through the ringer in the span of eight episodes. And though The Defenders was filled with many heartbreaking moments, one scene in particular brought out the devil in actor Charlie Cox.

Spoilers for The Defenders below.

Cox revealed that he tried to break co-star Finn Jones in one of the most dramatic moments in the finale. Before the other Defenders make their escape from Midland Circle, Daredevil whispers something into Iron Fist's ear that viewers don't learn until later.

Daredevil remains behind in a final effort to get through to Elektra, but they are both caught up in the destruction of the Hand's high-rise building. Surveying the implosion, Danny Rand reveals that Daredevil told him to "protect my city."

But that's not what Charlie Cox said, at all.

"I love that man. I loved that moment. We had a lot of fun on the day, trying to make up all sorts of stupid stuff," Cox revealed to the Hollywood Reporter. "I remember trying to say things [that would break him], because obviously he has to keep a very straight face. I tell him something and the audience at that point doesn't know what it is. He takes it very seriously. I'm of course saying these very stupid, mundane and silly things in his ear and trying to make him crack a smile."

Cox went on to reference Daredevil storylines where Iron Fist and other characters take on his character's mantle.

"And there are a few characters who dress up as [Daredevil] at certain points in the comics," he said. "Peter Parker is another one. I think one of the nice relationships in The Defenders is the Matt and Danny relationship. Danny looks up to Matt a little bit, as a sensible older brother who has been doing this for a lot longer. At the same time, there's a mutual respect. Matt is very impressed with Danny's fighting techniques, and his skills, and his style. That friendship, there's definitely a lot of room for it to grow. I loved working with Finn. We had a great time. He's a true professional. If he's involved somehow further on, wearing the Daredevil suit? Yeah, for sure."

We'll see how Rand respects Murdock's wishes either in Iron Fist Season Two or Daredevil Season Three.

For now, you can stream The Defenders on Netflix.

Marvel's The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
