Exclusive: Wolverine's Son Officially Joins The X-Men

Marvel Comics today released X-Men Blue #1 into comic book stores. The issue brings the original five X-Men together once again to continue their adventures, with a surprising new mentor, in the ResurrXion era.

The issue also features a second story, written by Cullen Bunn with art by Matteo Buffagni, that features a mysterious clawed young man with a healing factor fighting Wendigo in the northern wilderness.

Marvel Comics has now officially confirmed our suspicions. This character is indeed Jimmy Hudson, the son of the Wolverine of the Ultimate Marvel universe who himself took up the mantle of Wolverine after his father's death. And yes, Jimmy will be joining the original five X-Men as part of the X-Men Blue team.

"I'm really excited to see this character become part of the team," Senior Editor Mark Paniccia tells ComicBook.com in a statement. "Aside from the fact that he is a kindred spirit…displaced as the Original X-Men are…he'll also feed into some themes X-Men fans are very familiar with. Like the original Wolverine, Jimmy doesn't remember his past. And like the original Wolverine, he's going to find a certain red head very attractive. Will this cause problems with Cyclops? Heheh. Just have to wait and see."

In the Ultimate Marvel Universe, Wolverine had a child and trusted the boy to the care of his war buddy, James Hudson. Jimmy was raised as James' son and only learned who his true father was after Logan died. Ultimate Kitty Pryde brought Jimmy a message from Logan explaining everything that had happened.

Kitty suspected that Jimmy may have inherited his father's powers. Jimmy discovered his claws, which were bone but could naturally coat themselves in a metal alloy as part of his mutant gift. He also has his father's healing abilities. Jimmy took over as the new Ultimate Wolverine and became a member fo Kitty Pryde's new Ultimate X-Men team.

The Ultimate Universe died in the final incursion that led to the Secret Wars event. However, several characters and objects from the Ultimate Marvel Universe survived the destruction of Battleworld and now exist in the main Marvel universe, including Miles Morales (the Ultimate Spider-Man), the Maker (the evil Ultimate Reed Richards), and the Ultimate Thor's Mjolnir.

With Jimmy not remembering his past, that means he likely does not know that he is from a different version of the Marvel Universe. It also means he has probably been surviving in the wilderness on his own for at least a year or so.

With this confirmation, ComicBook.com can also now reveal the full covers for X-Men Blue #5 and #6. Both covers feature Jimmy Hudson and were originally pixelated to hide Jimmy's identity. Both covers are drawn by Jimmy's co-creator, Art Adams.

X-Men Blue #1 is on stands now.
